My Beta Wordpress Registry Landing Page Theme
What is a Wordpress landing page theme?
Your run of the mill Wordpress theme has one template for pages which makes every page on your blog look basically the same, with the same layout, sidebars, colors and look. But it is possible to create more than one page template for a Wordpress theme.
A landing page theme has one or more page templates set up to be a landing page for PPC or other advertising sources. Landing pages have a purpose and that purpose is to make a sale or get a lead. There are many ways to make a web page do this better. One is by removing all distractions to the page’s goal.
My landing page theme has two templates. One that simply removes the sidebars and widens the main content, so that is all you see when you land on the page. The other removes all styling but still keeps the Wordpress code so that every plugin that effects your standard pages will affect your landing page, but the page does not use the theme’s stylesheet.
How to Use My Landing Page Theme
In your Wordpress admin, navigate to Pages->Add New. Down on the bottom right you will see a drop down menu in the “Attributes” box. From there you can select the page template the page you are creating will use.
The PPC Landing Page template will use the stylesheet of the main Wordpress installation. The only thing different is no sidebar and I removed the header image link and put it at the bottom of the page. And the results look like this.
The Blank Slate Landing Page template just uses the guts of Wordpress with none of the styling. You may want to use a plugin like HeadSpace2 to add an extra stylesheet to the page if your landing page will need that. Here is an example although not a good one because I still need to edit the stylesheet I was using to remove the borders around the images.
I Am Looking for Feedback
I called this beta because there is more I want to do with it. Some of the things I want to do may require plugins which I am developing now. I am also going to create a series of these in various niches, so I want to make sure my base idea is working before I start building a bunch of these. So, if I could get your help, I would like to know via comments:
- What other niches would you like me to create a theme for?
- Any suggestions on adding more page templates?
- More features you would like to see.

I looked around a while for the answer to your question and found a lot of plugins that cost money. But here seems to be some details on creating member only sections on Wordpress: http://agapetry.net/forum/role-scoper-case-studies/wordpress-private-members-area/page-1/ I think you can also do this on a post or page by page basis and just lock the post with your download to members. Maybe this is something I need to write a post about since information is not readily available.
I think this is a decent landing page…but the concept of it all is what I like most.
I saw those options under ‘new page’ but never used them yet…just like many have yet to use the ‘make it sticky’ option I revealed on MSB.
I will be building more and better ones, themed for different niches as time permits. There will also be a plugin coming to make these themes more effective. Think landing page generator.
