Using WordPress For A Review Site

Who would have know that WordPress makes the perfect platform for a review. I know I write product reviews here, but I mean a full-featured WordPress review site plugin where visitors votes are counted into the whole. So why spend your time looking for review website scripts or review website software when WordPress can be optimized to become a review site. All with the help of one review plugin.

If you don’t use WordPress, you should be using it. With plugins and themes freely available anywhere, you don’t need a developer to do minor changes on your site, just change your plugin or theme. This gives you a lot of flexibility.

And I found the perfect plugin for your review site. This plugin works so well, I put another WordPress installation on this site for reviews only. This will be the last product review at this blog. From now on, this blog will cover making money with affiliate programs and building traffic to your affiliate websites.

What Do You Get With MyReviewPlugin?

Installation is pretty simple if you are familiar with FTP and uploading files to the wp-content folder. The plugin is not just a plugin. It is actually four plugins and six themes:

  • The Core MyReviewPlugin review site Plugin
  • The Import Man WordPress import plugin which will import any data in a CSV file into your WordPress blog either as posts or pages. Think datafeeds like those from Regnow, ShareASale and others.
  • The Comment Man plugin which will fill your blog with comments or reviews using article spinner formatted text (not recommended if you will be running a true review site)
  • The Link Man plugin which will replace keywords with links in your pages and posts. It will also create redirects with double refreshes to hide the referrer.
  • Six custom review site themes with the necessary but you can also use your own theme and have the review plugin add the code automatically like I did and turn any WordPress theme into a WordPress review theme.

So how does MyReviewPlugin turn your blog into a review site?

  • It allows your visitors to add star ratings along with a comment so you get feedback from your community.
  • You can set your own rating for product and allow it to override user ratings if you want.
  • Weighted star ratings to prevent system gaming so you get more accurate numbers.
  • Put it where you want it on only specific posts or make your whole blog a review site.
  • Import or add custom data for each review item.
  • Create custom comparison tables so that visitors can compare products side by side.
  • Built-in thumbshots functionality for dynamic screenshots of websites reviewed.
  • Built-in Google Maps functionality for location based reviews sites for restaurants, resorts, local services, etc.
  • Widgets to display review listings on any sidebar.
  • Use any theme you want with the plugin with one-click automatic embedding.
  • Quick links in the admin to other free plugins you need to set up an optimized WordPress site. Just click the links to install
  • hReview and RDFa review support for integration into reviews in Google

What Do I Think of The Plugin?

First, let me tell I have actually built a website with another review plugin which will remain nameless because the product doesn’t even compare. It costs about the same, but had less features. And here are the advantages I see in MyReviewPlugin, the things that would have saved me a lot of time when I was building that other resort review site.

First I wanted a custom review theme and that other plugin said that you could use any theme and it would be embeddable. It didn’t quite work out that way. After creating the custom theme, I tried to get the code to embed, which it did, in the wrong places. So I found myself editing files in the plugin just to get it to work the way I want.

Not so with MyReviewPlugin. I spit a theme out of artisteer and here is how it looks with the review plugin and no file edits:

And now I could switch it up if I wanted to. I could use checkmarks instead of stars. I could use different colored or different styled stars. I also have a buttload of buttons to choose from too. In fact, it was just like writing a normal blog post other than adding the link for the button and setting my rating for the product and they are all right there on the post editing page:

And while I won’t be importing products onto this specific review blog, I will be using this function for other blogs. It’s a pretty awesome tool. I have been looking for something like this for a while, not just for reviews. In fact, if I had it before I built this whole site to be the way it is. I would have used it to house my Clickbank mall rather than writing my own custom site. Let me show you why:

And don’t worry about affiliate theft. MyReviewPlugin does all it can to prevent this with the Dr. Link plugin which not only cloaks links but does so with a double meta refresh which not only prevents visitors from scoping your affiliate link but also hides referrer data from your affiliate company just in case they want to scope out your techniques and use them themselves. Neither of these things happen that often but it is good to be safe.
