Why I Think Squidoo Has Good Potential

Well, I can go through all the ebooks that have been written lately on Squidoo, but like I have said before it is hard to tell from a sales page if something actually works. So I would rather go from what I see on the site and put all of it to the test.

My first test was to get subscribers to this blog. Why did I do it through Squidoo? They have a ranking algorithm based on factors that no one knows. A ranking algorithm is a script that determines why one page should be above another when the site is searched or when a category is browsed. And although the way the algorithm works is not explained, you can make a few guesses. One of the guesses I made was traffic to your lens. I figured this has to make a lens rank a little higher.

So I am pumping PPC advertising to the page. If traffic is a factor, this should cause the page to rank higher. So far, this seems to be true. But doing this is a one-two punch. As my lens starts ranking higher because of the advertising, it will also start ranking higher on Squidoo as a whole. Therefore when people search, the chances that they will find the site becomes better. If I had sent people directly to this blog, I would not have had that effect.

A lens is basically a page you create that is one small chunk of a bigger topic. At least, that’s the way I like thinking of them. I have seen a few lenses that are big long pages that seem to jam everything in and these do rank high also. But with a smaller lens you have the capability of writing a real complete rundown on a small portion of a larger subject and then you can branch out to other portions of the subject and link all of these lenses together creating a network of lens each optimized for a different aspect of what you are trying to explain.

Since the url and title of your lens contain the most important keywords you will use, having more lenses gives you the chance to using more keywords in these places. And if you get involved in the Squidoo community, this just gives you more possibilities of jumping the rank up of your lens.
