Where Did My Pagerank Go?
This used to be a site called ClickbankEbook.com. That link took you right back here didn’t it. Yes, it is now digital products review.
A few weeks ago, a vendor complained to Clickbank that I ranked higher than him for the search terms that he had optimized for. There is not much I can do about that and If that were the only issue, there would have been no problem. But if you notice, the name of my old domain had Clickbank in it. That is a no-no. That is the reason this site used to rank on the front page of Google for Clickbank. Clickbank frowns on people that used their trademarked name in their domain.
They closed my account. Then I moved another account I had to this site. They closed that account.
I was struggling with what to do. I had a blog on the the site called Digital Products Review, which is now the main focus of the site. So I redirected ClickbankEbook.com to this site. No problems with trademark issue any more. So far, it has seemed to work with no drop in traffic. My stats and Alexa attest to that. But the whole situation was stressful there for a while.
This site started back in 2003. So it has been around for four years now. For three years, I had made great money from the site. Not enough to focus only on this site, but enough that a setback like I just described could have been an issue.
This is yet another mistake that I made in affiliate marketing that I bounced back from. Don’t use trademarked names in your domain name if you plan on purchasing a domain to promote products. You can use them in page names to get that extra boost in ranking. It’s a big boost. On the front page of Google for Clickbank is nothing to sneeze at. But choose something else for your domain name. You can make years without an issue, but when the issue comes up, you’ll be scrambling for what to do.
You are kind of at the mercy of the affiliate program that you sign up for. All have terms listed when you sign up for them. Most of the terms are to their advantage, not leaving you with much to stand on. Is this something to cry, whine and bitch about? No. It’s just how it is. And if you don’t try anything underhanded, you will have no issues. Clickbank could have held both checks from those cancelled accounts back according to their terms, but they didn’t. And I am definitely happy about that.
So this is a site in flux. I have already added a forum. I am going to create a custom template. I am definitely cleaning up the categories that are just too spread out. In the mean time, I will be keeping the posts coming, so if you can stand the suckiness of the rest of the site, come by for the content and I will get all of the rest fixed in due time.
Hey, I talked to you a few times in the past on this site about various things. Anyways I always leave my web address if thats an option anywhere I have a conversation.
What Happend I don’t know but when i check my back links I have roughly 200 all pointing from your site.
I don’t know if it’s a bad thing yet or good but i thought you ought to know if you don’t, I hope you don’t.
It’s like I got stuck in your tags some how. (Take a look)
