I tested out a plugin: http://www.bluehatseo.com/new-wordpress-plugin-pingcrawl/ that did this automatically for a while. It searched out blogs that showed trackbacks related to the current post and linked to them. It just did too much for my taste. If they are showing trackbacks and these trackbacks are dofollow, when you link to the blog, the blog will link back to you, like the first comment on this post which is actually a trackback, but not dofollow.
