Get Rich Quick

I started reading get rich quick schemes when I was a teenager. At first, I thought there was a possibility of me filling my pockets with cash selling such things as herbal supplements or long distance. But I was just dreaming.

Somewhere along the way, though, I noticed that the people making the real money were the ones at the top. The people that started the MLM programs and managed to get everyone else to sell their products for twice what they are worth had it made.

Have a unique product or make it seem unique, because we all know that calcium comes in 50 different types and they each have different benefits. It has to be unique or else a competitor will sprout up really quick and sell their product for only 50% more than what they are worth.

Then you had to convince people to sign up. But before they start making money, they must buy it themselves and at a certain level. One way to convince people was to never stop talking. I never quite understood this one. It catches a lot of people like me who will agree to anything to prevent confrontation and then will stick to their original decision. Served them right for not letting me get a word in.

It’s a racket. A pyramid scheme that any product can fit into.

The Make Money Lesson

But the point of this is that if you learned how to make money from someone, even me, then you need to stand up, shake off the effects of the Kool-aid a bit and look around. Follow the money and see where it goes. Because no one teaches you how to make money without an ulterior motives. After all, what is the benefit of creating a competitor.

A lot of people get caught in the details. By making a MLM more complex than it has to be, more focus is spent doing math and adding up people in your downline then paying attention to how the system really works and where the money goes. Just like most magic tricks are overly complex, so the sleight of hand that the whole trick is based on goes unnoticed.

Look Everywhere Money Changes Hands

I am using MLM for an example, but this works everywhere. I worked in retail for a few years. And I actually I still do, with ecommerce. Customers have no idea what something is really worth. Paying a 500% convenience fee on your purchases guarantees that the lease at the strip mall will be paid, the electricity will be paid, all five employees ignoring you while having a conversation will be paid, the truck driver who delivered the product will be paid, the fork lift driver that put the pallet on the truck… You get the idea.

The internet is no different. You just have to trace the money. It is not hard to do. And you don’t need someone to show you how to make money online. Just watch someone who does. Try it. And then go to business school. Because half of what you need to know is behind the scenes and keeping the money is the hard part.
