The CommentLuv and KeywordLuv Post River

June 24, 2008

I decided over the weekend to take this CommentLuv list one step further. I started wondering what value the lists had in themselves. Not much. You can click each link, visit the blog and find out that you have nothing to say. After all, you should just be posting worthwhile comments and not forcing yourself to say something just because you get a link back to your site.

So first, I ran some software to find every possible CommentLuv and KeywordLuv blog I could. This came to right under 600 blogs. Then I took the url’s and ran them threw a script I built to find the feed url of each blog. With this list of feed urls I built an OPML file. This took hours but I wasn’t involved. The software did it’s job. As far as the software goes, I will be writing a review of it soon. The name. Wait for the review. It was not created to do what I did with it. It was built as a website submitter, but I have found so many uses for it lately.

Okay, enough of the internet war stories. Everyone knows about the Techmeme or Megite river of news where a mass of stories are feed in and then sorted so that the newest posts show first. I have been playing with the idea of making more "niche" news rivers. After all, not everyone is tech savvy. What about a scrapbooking news river? Also, tech covers a lot of territory. I read the Techmeme river but I know I am just hitting the top of what’s going on it tech. I want to build deep rather than wide rivers. Each post on the Techmeme river could theoretically be a creek of even more detailed specific information.

And the CommentLuv and KeywordLuv Post River is the first experiment. And finally gave me a use for a domain I have had for ages. Now that I have a system down, I can build a lot of rivers. Watch for more to come.

I also used Dapp to build a widget that you can add to your Google homepage or a blog or wherever you want.

Hi Stephan, it was thanks to commentluv that I found this post. I’ve had it for awhile and while it hasn’t increased my comments exponentially I found that it was still worth having. If nothing else it sort of adds a ‘bells and whistles’ effect to the blog, and you know hoe us guys like our ‘bells and whistles’ ;)

I grabbed it and I’m gonna use it on one of my sites. It’s a very cool idea and should be a nice time-saver…as well as serving as a publicity tool for the blogs themselves. I’m assuming it will continue to update the feed as new CL/KL blogs come online?

    Thanks again!

I will have to update regularly but it doesn’t take too long. Probably about an hour of work every month or so. I will be putting a form up for submissions eventually on the site.

KeywordLuv is good for creating anchor links to your homepage. I use Affiliate Marketing Blog for my comments on KeywordLuv sites most of the time. Just testing to see if it will help me to rank for those keywords.

I don’t know a thing about blogger. I started one blogger blog and gave up because I couldn’t do what I can do with Wordpress. I didn’t even know they had plugins.

    Interesting!
CommentLuv helps you reward your commentators by separating their name from their keywords in the link to their site. This gives them improved anchor text, which can help their site rank higher in the search engine results.
You can now leave a comment with your name as well as a keyword of your choice here and get a PR5 link back to your site! How cool is that? People pay big bucks for that and all you have to do is comment here.

wow, I really like the look of that widget!! The new version of commentluv is just a few days away and it has a support site which will be able to store the links that are added in a database. I could probably add some sort of API to it so you could get a stream (no pun intended) of all the latest commentluv links as they happen if you’re interested?

Aside from all the other obvious benefits, I find that my readers really like that I have commentluv installed. It is that little extra incentive to post a comment.
