Promote What’s Hot or Promote What You Know

September 24, 2007

At first, affiliate marketing seems great. You have freedom of choice. You can promote just about any product on earth and get paid for it. It could also make you feel a bit robbed. You may have already raved about a product at a forum or social network. Who knew you could have been paid for it.

But there may be so many choices available that you don’t know where to start. The sheer mass of choices may freeze you in your tracks, before you even get started. A lot of marketers would tell you to now go out and buy The Niche Eliminator, The Super Double Duper Niche Catcher, or some similar product guaranteed to find hot products for you. Don’t search for them. I made the names up.

I am not going to tell you that. You may want to buy software down the road, when you are sure that affiliate marketing is for you. But for now, I am taking you step by step on the shoestring methods of affiliate marketing. A lot of money can be made by promoting hot products or finding niches. But all the niche finding software I have found requires you to type a keyword in to start anyway. Where do you get the keyword in the first place?

For now, I am going to repeat what has been repeated many times. Write what you know. Nothing is out of question. Nothing is too small.

For now, it is best to go through what you know, your interests, and what makes you passionate. Do you have to be an expert? No. In fact, one of the best times to start promoting a product is when you just became interested in it. Because the expert terminology has not permeated your brain yet. You can still translate expert speak into newbie speak. As you are learning, you will know exactly where the stumbling blocks are. You will know why someone would want to learn what you are learning. And beginners are definitely more passionate.

Anybody can make a list of the knowledge they possess and the knowledge they want to possess. We will go through methods of coming up with ideas on my next post.

Yeah. If we are confident that the product we know has better features compared to their peers in the market, then I think its a good idea to promote.
