Creating Categories on My Niche Blog
July 23, 2008
If the topic of the new blog were something I was overly excited about, chances are that I would just start writing posts, creating categories on the fly and for the most part haphazardly jumping in with both feet and thrashing around. But I don’t want to do that. I kind of did that with this blog and it took me a while to get it under control.
So, since the goal is to make money, I will look for affiliate products first and then use those products to guide the theme of the blog. At first, I started mapping out the Ebay niche as a whole. And wasting my time. First, the products. Then the categories and content.
I know Ebay, deal with it all the time. I sell closeout parts on Ebay to drive traffic to an ecommerce site. I once wrote a program to pull niches out of Ebay, one of the first of its kind. I sold digital products on Ebay. I have sold on commission for other people. And I have hunted down closeout deals for resale. That is the background I have to build this blog.
With that knowledge and the products I choose, I will be able to create categories that increase search engine hits. Hint: I just have to put a product’s name in the title of a post here to get hits from people looking for reviews. It’s in the domain and the blog’s name.
Profit-ware.com has the disadvantage of not having "ebay" or "auction" in the url. But this site’s domain used to be clickbankebook.com and I ran into some really big issues with Clickbank over that which got a few accounts deleted before I worked it out. I changed it to digitalproductsreview.net and they were happy.
That disadvantage I will make up with category slugs. I will get these by lining up the products I choose and categorizing them. I will choose a common word or phrase used by each product in each category to create the category slugs. More on this and the results, later…
