Making what I call a parallel keyword list was one way I entered a market where the competition was hot and managed to pull some money out of it. In fact, since I don’t promote the products any more, I will give you exactly what I did to double the amount of money I was making by trying out PPC. This was one of my first profitable campaigns and it made profits for over a year with barely any intervention from me. Up to that point I dabbled in using PPC to promote Clickbank products.

Find any phrase that a person might use and switch out the words with synonyms. I know. That’s nothing new. And with the most common phrases, it won’t give you that many keywords. But I am not saying to use common phrases. I am saying to find specific ones. Here is what I did.

I promoted spyware removers. Now the field was pretty competitive, but I had a little insight. First I built a list of words that were synonyms of remove, fix, repair, etc. Then I kept a running list of new spyware, malware, and viruses. I knew from my own experience that people search for the specific file name when they searched. By mixing the two together with something like the Keyword Multiplier Firefox extension, you can build a massive list of keywords. I had so many by the end, they numbered in the thousands. And I was getting five cents a click. This was when the minimum bid was five cents.

This doesn’t work for everything. You have to find a product with similiar potential. But it is a way to get cheap bids. What the hell, I’ll list a few I can think of off the top of my head.

  • Purchase synonyms and printer ink part no’s
  • Car make and models and car part names
  • New release movie names and movie formats

Or you could just investigate the Clickbank or Commission Junction vendors and something will come to you.

Another tip. I used every match type for each keyword in Adwords. It worked well.
