KeywordSpy Knocking on My Door

December 23, 2007

I have noticing this site hitting my blog off and on for months now. At first I thought it was someone trying to find out what Adwords I am bidding on. I didn’t worry too much because I don’t send those type of PPC clicks to this site. I buy hits hoping for new subscribers but am waiting for the design of this site to come along before I do anything more than that.

But I have had these types of hits from sites that were plants before. Companies that think they need your business. You notice a hit from the page in our stats. But when you check out the page, there is no link to your site. I have ran into porn sites, directory sites, random blogs and others that have spoof a referer so that you will come check out their site. This one was worth a look though.

I figured KeywordSpy was another site like Spyfu. A way to size up the competition at Adwords, but mainly for the more general terms. Many of the terms that I use don’t show any results when I search for them. They only have access to the data on limited terms because they get their data through scraping results. They must start with a list of words and get the results. So not all terms will show at these type of sites.

But the results that you do get are interesting. KeywordSpy will let you do the normal keyword searches where they will find the domains bidding on the keywords and also list just how many keywords in the database that domain in bidding on. You can access this list by clicking on the url. But there is also the feature of entering a Clickbank vendor id and getting a list of affiliates promoting it. Then you can check out the other programs that the affiliates are promoting.

You can sign up  for a free account which limits usage on everything. That’s all I have currently. I have already found some new advertising possibilities, so I am thinking about it. $80 a month can be made up quickly. Still it’s kin of steep when compared to Wordtracker or similar services.
