One Way to Write a Fast Product Overview
October 13, 2008
I am building a few niche blogs currently. I am still building product pages. At first and up to about a week ago, I copied and pasted the whole sales page into whatever blogging software I was using and then trimmed that content down. This took a long time and had me stalling, because I really hated to wade through all that information, so productivity dropped dramatically on the new blogs.
So now I am taking a different direction. You will notice this a lot from at this blog because many times what seemed to work well when I was thinking about it did not live up to what I really wanted when I went to put the plan into action. A note before I go on: I mention Clickbank because it is easy to use and has a lot of profit potential. Some of the niche blogs I am building do not promote Clickbank products but the same basic process applies. And I have used the same techniques to build ecommerce sites on Wordpress.
Start by outlining the sales page. Find the features and benefits that the product will give to potential customers and type them into your blogging software. Some style elements on the sales page may give away features and benefits. They may be bold. They may be headings or they may be highlighted in many different ways. If the product has a good sales page, you should have no trouble discovering these main features and benefits.
Once that is done, you just flesh it out. I called these product “overviews” for a reason. They don’t necessarily have to be reviews and they can only be a review if you have actually purchased and used the product. And if the niche is totally new to you, you will learn as you go along. And that is no problem either.
The person buying the product you are going to be promoting, if is it Clickbank software or ebooks, will most likely be a newbie. You essentially are one too. That will give you an advantage in writing your content, because you will be learning as you are going. Technical terms and precise jargon will be out of your reach because you don’t understand it. A newbie will be having the same trouble and will be using imprecise terms to find information in the search engines. An expert’s blog will most likely miss these type of hits. That is where you will cash in.
If you get stumped us a tool like niche browser to help you get a handle on the topic. I have found so much information using this tool that I don’t mind promoting something that is free.
Note: my current projects aren’t allowing me to mess with the tracking plugin just yet, but I am pushing on without tracking for now. Not really a good choice, but it is better to move forward than let one piece of the puzzle mess everything up. The most products any one of blogs feature currently is ten. Replacing the affiliate links at a later date with the tracking system should not be too much of an issue. And I will be going over that in detail when I do.

Stephan,
Nice tip on using the newbie approach. I think you got it right on. People who search for the many products are people not familiar with the info and they are looking for description from other people’s opinion with similar experience.

It took me a while to learn it. Once I was over the fear of looking like an idiot, I learned it was the perfect thing to do. If you can’t compete with those at your level because they already have a foot in the door, redirect their potential traffic to your blog through word usage and build your own base.
Hi Stephan,
interesting twist on site / overview (instead of review) creation.
May i ask what other tools you use besides niche browser?

Michael
