Affiliate Marketers Have to Wear Shades
June 19, 2008
Looks like the future is bright for affiliate marketing, as long as you learn your stuff. It looks like the only wild card preventing us from making any more money is Google. But Google is no problem as long as you build quality sites. So the news is basically the same as before. "Don’t piss off Google."
But who needs news like this to choose affiliate marketing. It’s the ultimate test of stepping away from your day job to freedom in your own business you created. A business where you don’t have a boss, client, or customers to answer to.
So despite the news, I would have been here. Without the news, I would have given it a shot. Who needs the news? Just make steps forward.
U.S. Online Affiliate Marketing Forecast, 2007 to 2012
JupiterResearch has published a study on affiliate marketing that indicates online marketers will spend $2.1 billion on affiliate marketing fees, with US online affiliate marketing spending reaching $3.3 billion in 2012.

Yes, it still is work. It’s just not a job. I actually made $100 a day after two months. But for two years before that I read and experimented. The true test is sticking with it and staying on track. I am good with the first part, but the later does need some work. It is hard not to be thrown off track when you look up from a project just finished and there is already so many new sites, ideas and concepts that you think you may be left behind. It is work, but a lot of procrastination can be hidden in amongst it.
Hi Stephan,
Actually commenting more on your “comment” than your actual blog post.
Like you, I spent years in the background researching & experimenting. People see someone up and coming and think it’s instant success or that they got lucky. Usually it’s the culmination of a lot of work…a lot of time behind the scenes.
Oh…and the procrastination…that’s a tuffy. It’s the lack of focus that gets me every single time.
Personally, I think the fastest way to success is to stick with your chosen project, what ever it may be. When you make a commitment to yourself…stick with it.
In other words, if you say you are going to work 2 hours per day, turn off your phone, your TV, and especially turn off your EMAIL.!!! Don’t look at anything else. Make sure that what ever you commit to yourself…do it.
Don’t rob from yourself.
Oh, yeah….
Another thing. Don’t get caught in the trap thinking that “online research” is part of your time commitment to yourself. Yes, you need to research but not on the time you set aside for yourself. If you do, you WILL get distracted and side tracked.
Now, if you set an hour aside to research a topic. You need to stick to that one hour on FOCUSED research.
Here’s a trick I use when I know I need to do some online research to keep me focused:
Create a folder in your browsers bookmarks. Call it “Sites To Re-Visit”. Any time you find an interesting site that is distracting you from your FOCUSED research just bookmark it. Then move on with your real research.
