When I was building sites with Drupal, this was one module that was available and worked well. I had a site that imported ShareASale datafeeds. I have yet to find a similar plugin in WordPress, not even a pay version.

But I have been playing around lately with the CSV import plugin mentioned in my last post. I had some issues with it working. Not matter what I did, the timestamp would not come out right. All the posts were dated in 1999. Well, I fixed the issue by editing the plugin and ended up looking at the stucture. It is pretty simple. I could modify it to creat pages instead of posts if I wanted to.

I have already written a plugin that downloads, extracts and imports the Clickbank marketplace into a separate table in WordPress. It stopped there for now. But it does import xml into a MySql database. The PayDotCom marketplace also uses XML.

So a plugin that would do both xml and csv import would cover most of the datafeeds out there.

How this fits into the niche blogging plan

You can’t write about every product. But you can write about a few and have all the rest available on your site. It is a catablogging model.

The first model for a plugin I was working on had all of the products in a separate database table. The new model puts the products in posts or pages with custom fields to identify vendors and products.

This will allow WordPress plugins to interact with imported data. A plugin like Similar Posts could become a contextual affiliate link matching system.

So look for a plugin I will release in the future.
